Learn to construct a simple chest
The ubiquitous 6 Board Chest is a design that is almost as old as the concept of furniture itself and is as relevant today as it’s ever been. It’s a design that challenges the wisdom of contemporary makers and one that will help you question some of your own theories about construction. On this three day course you will construct a simple box with a hinged lid using a range of basic hand tools, simple joinery and traditional cut nails. No glue. As well as learning how to maximize the potential of wide boards, you’ll also learn to cut joints that are ready for assembly straight off the saw. There is scope for more experienced woodworkers to embellish their chest by producing mouldings by hand or adding an internal compartment to their chest. Tools and materials will be provided.
My weekend courses start on Friday evenings at 4.30pm and aim to finish by 1.00pm on Sunday. A tasty supper will be provided on the Friday evening and lunch on Saturday from one of the many excellent local suppliers.
