Every now and then a tool comes along that deserves more than a simple classified advert.
These four Bad Axe No. 9 Precision Tenon Saws have been wrapped in brown paper and sitting in my workshop for a couple of years, and it’s finally time to let them go.
Their story begins when legendary sawmaker Mark Harrell creator of Bad Axe Tool Works travelled to the UK to teach one of his saw-building classes. A shipping delay meant that several replacement parts intended for students arrived too late to be completed during the course. Rather than leave things unfinished, Mark returned to the UK a few months later and personally completed them.
My original intention was to absorb them into my teaching inventory, but the reality is that I rarely teach projects that truly showcase what the No. 9 was designed to do. These saws deserve to be making furniture rather than collecting dust.
What makes this offering particularly interesting is that the No. 9 no longer appears in the current Bad Axe product range and examples are becoming increasingly difficult to find. At the time of writing, I’ve only found one UK retailer with stock, priced at £340.
I’m offering these saws at £240 plus shipping.
For anyone who has been looking for a No. 9 – or simply wants one of the finest modern interpretations of the classic Disston design – this represents a rare opportunity to acquire a virtually unused example with a unique provenance and a substantial saving.
Importantly, these are not unfinished kits, prototypes, or second-quality saws. They are fully completed Bad Axe No. 9s, personally finished by Mark Harrell following his return visit to the UK. Their unusual history gives them a provenance that is unlikely to be repeated, combining the craftsmanship of one of the world’s most respected contemporary sawmakers with a direct connection to the UK classes he taught.
The saws will be listed on my website at £240 plus shipping, representing a £100 saving compared with the only UK stockist I have found currently offering a No. 9. Once they are listed, sales will be strictly first come, first served. And when they’re gone, they’re gone.
